Hi,

Could you please post the call below.

Best regards
Philippe

Hi,

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at UQAM is seeking applications for a position as a professor in atmospheric sciences. We are looking for candidates with expertise in atmospheric remote sensing, focusing on atmosphere observation across the entire spectrum of terrestrial emissions, active observations (lidar and radar), and their synergies in producing observation analyses. The candidate will contribute to education through remote sensing courses and engage in research at UQAM on the Canadian satellite missions AVENIR/HAWC and the Atmosphere Observing System (AOS) of NASA. This involves high-definition radiation modeling, including the scattering and polarization of electromagnetic waves, along with applications in the physical parameterizations of atmospheric and climate models. The Department offers atmospheric science training programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. It hosts the Centre pour l'étude et la simulation du climat à l'échelle régionale (ESCER; https://escer.uqam.ca/), internationally recognized for its research contributions in regional climate modeling, Earth-atmosphere interactions and feedbacks, extreme winter weather events, hydrometeorological risks related to climate change, paleoclimate modeling, aerosol impact on climate, remote sensing, and data assimilation.

ESCER actively participates in the Quebec InterSectoral Flood Network (RIISQ), is part of the Ouranos consortium, and collaborates with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), among others.

Responsibilities:

  *   Teaching and supervision in atmospheric remote sensing and atmospheric physics at undergraduate and graduate levels;
  *   Participation in research in the targeted field;
  *   Community service.

Qualifications:

  *   Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, remote sensing or related field;
  *   Interest in training and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  *   Good record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals in targeted field;
  * Fluency in spoken and written French.

Assets:

  *   Experience in teaching atmospheric remote sensing;
  *   Experience in solar and terrestrial radiation modeling;
  *   Research experience in cloud, aerosol or atmospheric composition observations;
  *   Experience in measurement campaigns or analysis of atmospheric remote sensing data;
  * Familiarity with satellite data processing and assimilation methods.

Application Procedure:

Interested candidates are invited to submit their application by email to darbyshire.fiona_ann at uqam.ca, with a copy to beauchemin.france at uqam.ca, as a single PDF file including a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a research statement (maximum 3 pages), and a teaching philosophy statement (maximum 1 page). Three letters of recommendation supporting your application must also be sent directly by referees to the same email addresses, ALL BEFORE MARCH 31, 2024, at 5:00 PM.

Additional Information:

For additional information, please see the official advertisement at https://www.rhu.uqam.ca/AffichageProfs/22107994.pdf or contact Mrs. Fiona Darbyshire, Director Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Université du Québec à Montréal Phone: 514 987-3000, ext. 5054 Email: darbyshire.fiona_ann at uqam.ca.

We look forward to receiving your applications and the opportunity to welcome a new colleague to our department.

Sincerely,

Philippe Lucas-Picher
