Position Title: Assistant Professor in Environmental Science
Department: School of Geosciences
Responsibilities:
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, School of Geosciences invites applications for one or more faculty positions in Environmental Science focusing on physical and chemical processes in soils. We will also consider outstanding applications from other fields that fit within our School. The primary focus of this search is to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor that will augment our environmental science programs and strength in areas related to soil science, but candidate applicability for other faculty-level positions will be considered.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (http://louisiana.edu<http://louisiana.edu/>) is a public R1 doctoral research university, and the largest of nine universities in the University of Louisiana System. The School of Geosciences combines the programs of Geology and Environmental Sciences and includes 15 full-time faculty, 7 instructors and staff, and more than 100 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in Geology and Environmental Resource Science. School of Geosciences faculty also mentor PhD students in the interdisciplinary Earth and Energy Sciences PhD Program (https://gradschool.louisiana.edu/earthenergy). Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. (post-doctoral experience is preferred) and demonstrated teaching and research experience in soil or sediment biogeochemistry, sediment transport and/or pollution, or a closely related field within a science-based program. Successful hires in this position should be able to provide instruction in at least one (and preferably two) of the following areas: introductory soil science, wetland soils, soil and water conservation, environmental pedology, soil genesis and classification, and the fate and transport of contaminants. Skills that include the application of molecular tools, geochemical analyses focusing on organic pollutants (PAHs, chlorinated solvents, MTBEs), inorganic and environmental tracers (e.g. isotopes, CFCs, noble gases), soil microbiology, and modeling of sediment transport and/or the fate of contaminants will be advantageous. Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations and in interdisciplinary teams.
