What We Can Achieve Together:
The Deputy Executive Director of Conservation works closely with the Deputy Executive Director of Operations, and the Executive Director (ED) to manage chapter affairs and respond to opportunities and challenges and serve as a proxy in professional settings where designated by the ED.  The Deputy Executive Director oversees the conservation and government relations departments comprised of more than 55 staff, including four direct reports, and a $10M budget.  The Deputy Executive Director sits on the Executive Leadership Team in Florida.
The Deputy Executive Director oversees all aspects of conservation, science, stewardship and government relations for The Nature Conservancy in Florida and plays an active role in establishing and managing the conservation priorities that help maximize Florida and the Southern Division's collective contributions to realizing the Conservancy's 2030 goals.  Conservation work in Florida is connected to five conservation strategies:

  *   Building a Sustainable Florida
  *   Center for Conservation Initiatives
  *   Conserving Resilient Lands, Oceans, and Waters
  *   Inspiring Climate Action
  *   Transforming Marine Management

The Deputy Executive Director sets and meets strategic conservation goals and objectives in FL and the Southern Division.  They serve as the principal contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, and the academic community.  They persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups including key legislators, government officials and others who are critical to the Conservancy's overall public funding strategies.  Frequent travel domestically, evening and weekend hours may be required. This role may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.  The Deputy Executive Director will work from a home office in Florida and location is flexible, with the exception of Monroe County.  Preferred location is close to a major airport.

What You'll Bring:
*                     Bachelor's degree and 7 years of relevant experience in conservation practice, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
*                     Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization.
*                     Experience directing a major program or project of strategic importance.
*                     Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and senior level staff.
*                     Experience negotiating complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
*                     Experience in developing program-wide strategies and policies.
*                     Experience working with diverse groups of staff and partners.
*                     Communication and presentation skills in the English language.
*                     Well-organized and self-directed, able to delegate appropriately.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
*                     Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of a large multi-disciplinary team.  Keeps staff informed and expresses appreciation.
*                     Proven managerial talent in budgeting, staffing, and performance management.  Delegates responsibility and authority to staff and clearly defines expectations.
*                     Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth.
*                     Proven technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus.  Demonstrated operational, implementation and detail-oriented perspective.
*                     Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in conservation, government relations, and non-profit management.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $146,000-$160,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
