The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is hiring a Postdoctoral Investigator to work on one of two focus areas:

1) Ocean Carbon Modeling. Radiocarbon (14C) and stable carbon (13C) isotopes of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) provide high signal to noise quantification of decadal-scale penetration of anthropogenic perturbations through the bottom of the thermocline and into the deep sea. The successful candidate would utilize the extensive existing datasets, new data, and ocean carbon modeling to explore topics relating to the oceanic uptake of atmospheric CO2 and changes in large scale ocean circulation.

2) Methane Isotopes. The radiocarbon signatures of methane in hydrothermal fluids, continental aquifers, groundwater wells, and natural springs can be a powerful way to track the source and formation pathway of this important volatile. The successful candidate would construct a system to extract and analyze radiocarbon (14C) and stable carbon (13C) in methane from aqueous samples.

Applicants will be considered until the position is filled.

Thanks,
Roberta
