Hi Anne,
You should export NCARG_COLORMAPS e.g

export NCARG_COLORMAPS=/home/szabo.b/data/colormaps:$NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg/colormaps

where /home/szabo.b/data/colormaps is my path. More detailed information is in: https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Graphics/create_color_table.shtml

Hi all,

I wanted to use the cmocean_ice.rgb colormap to plot a contour plot. I downloaded the rgb file from the NCL website and tried to put it in $NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg/colormaps. The errors comes that permission is denied even though I changed the permission of both the path and the file. Does anyone have experience on downloading/using new colormaps in NCL? I am using NCL version 6.4.0.
