The Air Quality Modeling Lab at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is recruiting a motivated Ph.D. student to begin in Fall 2025. The student will work on air quality modeling, with a focus on wildfire smoke modeling and forecasting, using advanced chemical transport models and satellite observations.

Research Topics Include:

  * Regional air quality modeling using tools such as WRF-Chem or CMAQ

  * Simulation and evaluation of wildfire smoke emissions and plume rise

  * Integration of satellite and ground-based observations for model evaluation

  * Contributions to air quality early warning systems for extreme events

Qualifications:

  * Background in atmospheric science, environmental science, meteorology, or a related field

  * Experience with programming (e.g., Python) and scientific computing

  * Strong interest in numerical modeling and environmental applications

  *   GRE is required

Interested applicants should email the following materials to Dr. Yunyao Li (yunyao.li at uta.edu):
