I'm excited to share that Loyola University Maryland, a PUI located in Baltimore, is hiring two tenure track assistant professors, one in data science and one in environmental science. More details are below.

The Division of Natural and Applied Sciences at Loyola University Maryland (LUM) invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professors to support growing programs in data science and environmental science. The new faculty will form an interdisciplinary cohort focused on increasing the success of women and other underrepresented groups in the STEM fields. Faculty appointments for this cohort will be in the departments of mathematics and statistics, physics, or chemistry and biochemistry.

Position Duties
We seek an outstanding candidate with a background in statistics, mathematics, or physics who will teach courses in data science as well as courses in statistics, mathematics, or physics. Courses may include but are not limited to introductory courses in at least one of these fields as well as upper level and introductory courses in data science. The successful candidate will be able to develop courses that contribute to the data science programs.

We seek an outstanding candidate with a background in the physical sciences or mathematics who will teach courses in environmental science, including an introductory sequence for environmental studies students as well as courses in physics, mathematics, or chemistry. Courses will include but are not limited to introductory courses in at least one of these fields as well as upper level and introductory courses in environmental studies. The successful candidate will develop courses in their field appropriate for current and potential environmental studies programs that focus on integral ecology and experiential learning.

Required Qualifications
Both Candidates

  *   Ph.D. in a STEM field
  *   Published or soon to be published high quality research in a STEM field.
  *   Proposed research has the potential to engage undergraduate researchers & is appropriate for a PUI.
  *   Evidence of effective teaching and/or engagement in professional development in STEM pedagogy
  *   Evidence indicating a commitment to increasing the success of underrepresented groups in STEM
Data Science Candidate

  *   Academic training and/or scholarship in the field of data science or a closely related field.
  *   Academic training and/or scholarship in statistics, mathematics, or physics.
  *   Knowledge of relevant analytic software (e.g., R, SAS)
  *   Preferred departmental appointment: Mathematics & Statistics
Environmental Science Candidate

  *   Academic training and/or scholarship in environmental science or a closely related field.
  *   Academic training and/or scholarship in statistics, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
  *   Knowledge of relevant analytic software (e.g., ArcGIS)
  *   Preferred departmental appointment: Physics
