Dear colleagues,
The Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering (AOPE) Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) invites candidates to apply to the open full-time tenure-track or tenured positions on our scientific staff at any of the Assistant/Associate/Senior Scientist levels. The AOPE department includes the Coastal Ocean Fluid Dynamics Lab (COFDL), Ocean Acoustics & Signals Lab (OASL), and Deep Submergence Lab (DSL).
We seek candidates who will complement or diversify existing strengths in applied ocean physics & engineering, including but not limited to:
● Coastal resilience; air-sea interactions; physical-biological interactions; polar processes; and coastal, nearshore, estuarine, and groundwater dynamics.
● Robotics; sensor development; remote sensing; and ocean acoustics.
We value interdisciplinary approaches, including work across lab groups in AOPE and with other departments in the institution. The ideal candidate will develop a research program that contributes significantly to the WHOI Vision 2030, which envisions a decade of institutional investment in excellence, innovation, and global engagement. We seek individuals who will contribute to WHOI’s mission by advancing next-gen ocean innovation and computational frontiers in oceanography to drive exploration and fundamental discovery of the ocean as well as use-inspired outcomes on climate change and ocean-human connections.
Application deadline: December 6, 2024.
