Penn State’s Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI)  invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position focused on the analysis and development of localized climate projections through regional climate modeling and empirical/statistical downscaling methods. Successful candidates will join a multi-institutional and transdisciplinary research team with interests in basic climate science, climate risk management, multisector dynamics, and climate data product development. The work of the team is supported both internally (https://clima.psu.edu, https://psirc.psu.edu) and by external awards from multiple federal agencies, including NSF, NOAA (https://midatlanticrisa.org), and DOE (https://pches.psu.edu, https://icom.pnnl.gov, http://tiny.cc/bsec). The position provides unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, cross-disciplinary mentoring, and professional development.

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. meteorology, hydrology, statistics, etc.) prior to the starting date of their appointment. Prior experience running regional climate models (preferably WRF) and/or downscaling outputs from global climate models using empirical/statistical methods is essential. Competitive candidates will have strong computational and quantitative skills, familiarity with climate datasets, and a clear orientation toward transdisciplinary collaboration. Proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python, NCL, Julia, Fortran) and evidence of effective scholarly communication are both essential. Experience working in a high-performance Linux cluster computing environment is also highly desirable.
