Job Description:
AMA seeks to hire a research scientist with a strong background in atmospheric analysis and remote sensing of clouds and aerosols. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting research in aerosol-cloud radiation interactions, cloud remote sensing, and atmospheric boundary layer meteorology. This is a full-time time position and will provide scientific support to the Satellite Cloud Group (SatCORPS) at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA as part of the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract.
Responsibilities:
· The successful candidate will conduct research on aerosol-cloud interactions in boundary layer clouds for projects funded by NASA and DOE. Opportunities also exist for the candidate to support the development of satellite remote sensing algorithms, retrieval validation efforts, and participation in field campaigns.
· The new researcher is expected to publish his/her results in peer review journals, write technical reports, and represent the team at conferences.
· The researcher is expected to provide monthly updates documenting progress and project status.
Requirements:
· MS or PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, Climate sciences, Physics, or related fields.
· For candidates with a MS, 3+ years of experience in atmospheric analysis (post MS graduation) is required. Previous experience analyzing impacts of boundary layer clouds in the climate system is expected.
· Experience with satellite visible/infrared cloud retrievals and familiarity with ARM ground-based observations of clouds and aerosols.
· Experience with scientific data processing platform such as Python, IDL, or MATLAB.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Experience with Fortran is desirable.
