Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Soil and Environmental Physics
Seeking a passionate academic to join the Department of Soil and Environmental Physical Sciences.
Mō te tūka | The role
We are seeking applications for an academic appointment within the Department of Soil and Physical Sciences.
The Department has a global reputation for research excellence.  Research activities span a wide range from pedology and soil resource characterisation to soil chemistry, biology, physics and fertility, biogeochemistry, earth sciences, water science and climate change. The Department is responsible for the delivery of Soil Science courses from diploma to postgraduate level as well as the delivery of first-year courses in chemistry, physics, and earth science.
The position exists to further the pursuit and acquisition of knowledge and understanding by:

  *   Initiating, developing and conducting high quality research, collaborating with others in and outside the University
  *   Advancing and enhancing the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  *   Contributing to the supervision of postgraduate students' research
  *   Contributing to the wider functioning of the University
This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln Campus.
Remuneration for this position is as follows:

  *   Lecturer: Grade A6, $74,112 - $88,503
  *   Senior Lecturer: Grade A7, $94,113 - $121,242
Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role
To be successful in this role you will need:

  *   A PhD in Soil Science, Environmental Science or another closely related discipline
  *   An innovative research agenda, including research publications in peer-reviewed journals that relate to soil physics, including (but not exclusively): vadose zone, soil moisture, soil structure, surface processes (e.g., erosion, fluid flow, sediment deposition), critical zone processes (water and gas transport), remote and proximal sensing
  *   A proven track record in attracting external research funding and working with a variety of stakeholders
  *   An ability to inspire, be creative and show innovation in your teaching
  *   The capability, energy and enthusiasm to teach undergraduate soil physics, environmental physics; plus the ability to teach, supervise and mentor soil science and soil physics at postgraduate level
  *   Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  *   Excellent science communication skills
Applicants with research interests in the areas of soil physical systems, irrigation and water use, and familiarity with New Zealand farming systems will be viewed favourably
