Post Masters RA - Disturbance Impacts on River Corridor Hydro-biogeochemistry

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s (PNNL) Marine and Coastal Research Laboratory in Sequim, WA is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative post-masters’ research associate with a strong background centered around aquatic and/or terrestrial biogeochemistry. Specific experience with (1) sediment- or soil-based nutrient amendment experiments, (2) stable isotope probing and tracer experiments, (3) characterizing pyrogenic organic matter, and/or (4) field and laboratory methods in river corridor hydro-biogeochemistry is desired. Experience working in a strong team environment and with laboratory and data analysis methods in environmental chemistry, biogeochemistry and/or river corridor hydro-biogeochemistry is required. Specific job duties will vary depending candidate background, and candidates with expertise in one or more of elements summarized above are encouraged to apply.

The candidate will join the Ecosystem Science Team and contribute to activities related to interdisciplinary projects focused on the influence of wildfires on river corridor biogeochemistry. The projects are comprised of large, interdisciplinary teams and coordinate large-scale field campaigns across sites and institutions. This approach requires significant planning, organization, coordination, and communication. The candidate must have strong communication, organizational, and laboratory skills. The candidate will uphold a high level of safety and security culture of PNNL. Responsibilities will include laboratory processing and data management activities from various analytical laboratory techniques. Candidates may also participate in instrument maintenance and field collection of water and sediment samples. Candidates will be expected to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and engage in open science.

This is a full-time position anticipated to last 2 years (contingent on performance) starting in the Fall/Winter of 2022. This position requires greater than 50% of onsite work at PNNL’s Marine and Coastal Research Laboratory located in Sequim, Washington. Applications shall be submitted online at jobs.pnnl.gov.
