Two Postdoctoral researcher positions in carbon cycle modelling and data
assimilation at Lund University, Sweden
The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science
(https://www.nateko.lu.se) at Lund University is seeking to appoint two
postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in carbon cycle
modelling, data assimilation, inverse modelling or applied mathematics.
The appointees will be part of a vibrant and international team within
the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. The
department operates and further develops the Carbon Cycle Data
Assimilation System and the LUMIA inverse modelling framework capable of
quantifying sources and sinks of carbon dioxide through the assimilation
of observational data.
The positions are linked to the newly EU-funded projects CORSO and
AVENGERS (which is coordinated by Lund University). CORSO will support
the establishment of an operational modelling system to monitor
anthropogenic CO2 emissions across the world as part of the Copernicus
programme. AVENGERS will advance the top-down methods for quantifying
greenhouse gas (GHG) and aerosol emissions to support the verification
of national GHG inventories and other regulated estimates of emissions
and removals complementing the methods/approaches currently used for the
national emissions reporting.
Within these projects the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem
Science will work on developing and applying a coupled carbon cycle
fossil fuel data assimilation system as well as further developing and
applying the LUMIA inverse modelling framework. The appointees will be
members of the inverse modelling group; they will work on the
development and application of the assimilation systems together with
the project partners and international collaborators.
One of the posts will be available for 36 months and the other one for
24 months, both with a preferred starting date of February 2022 or as
soon after as possible.
Closing date for applications: 23 December 2022
Interviews will be conducted in early January 2023
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and
experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and
an asset.
