The Electron Microbeam facility in the Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) is seeking a highly qualified researcher to oversee and operate our instrumentation, including a JEOL JXA-8200 Electron Probe Microanalyzer (EPMA); JEOL JSM-6490LV SEM with Cathodoluminescence (CL) and Electron Backscattered Diffraction Detector (EBSD) and Bruker D8 Advance X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD). The facility's vision is to develop leading capabilities of electron microbeam instrumentation to allow researchers and students in the Jackson School of Geosciences, the University of Texas at Austin, and those in the south-central region of the US to conduct a broad range of high-impact, discovery class science. The lab has a strategy to achieve this vision: (1) developing and operating efficiently and effectively, (2) creating a vibrant environment that attracts world-class scientists and (3) facilitating interactions within and among students and researchers across units of the Jackson School, the University of Texas at Austin, and the south-central US region. To be considered, applicants must have relevant work experience in the use and maintenance of electron and X-ray microbeam instruments. Applicants must commit to delivering excellence promptly and work well under pressure.
