In this role, you will work within the Product Testing Unit. You will provide vital consumer product testing prep room assistance. One day it may include purchasing products in a retail store and the next day it might be collecting stormwater run-off samples. A day in the prep room may consist of photographing, screening, deconstructing activities before sending samples off for laboratory testing. This unique, however important work, supports agency priorities to reduce consumer exposure to toxic chemicals, verifies compliance with our state laws, and enforces toxics regulations.

What you will do:

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Product Testing Assistant will:



*        Assist with sampling events for both consumer products testing and environmental testing.

*        Perform screening of consumer projects samples with x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) instrumentation.

*        Deconstruct consumer product samples in preparation for laboratory analysis.

*        Perform data entry, chain of custody, and quality assurance activities.



Required Qualifications:

Experience for both required and desired qualifications can be gained through various combinations of formal professional employment, educational, and volunteer experience. See below for how you may qualify.



A total of Five (5) years of experience and/or education as described below:

*        Professional level Experience in: environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning.

*        Education involving a major study in: environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

*       Must have a valid Driver's License.



Desired Qualifications:

*        Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or science, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or public health.

*        Database management experience.

*        Experience operating chemistry screening equipment.

*        Report writing experience.

*        Experience with conflict resolution and teambuilding.
