Position Summary
The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at the Metropolitan
State University of Denver is seeking affiliate faculty (Category III) to
teach courses in SCI 2610, Integrated Physical and Chemical Sciences, and/or
SCI 2600, Integrated Biology and Earth Science. Qualified applicants will be
placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for
affiliate/part-time departmental needs.
The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience
working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment
to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities
Qualified applicants will teach SCI 2610, examines the nature of energy and
matter, their interactions and changes, and the application of fundamental
scientific concepts to the study the natural world. These concepts are
explored through hands-on laboratory experiments that focus on the basic
principles of physics and chemistry. SCI 2600, Integrated Biology and Earth
Science, and/or SCI 2610, Integrated Physical and Chemical Sciences.
SCI 2600 surveys the fundamental scientific principles and systems in
biology and the earth sciences by examining the basic building blocks of
life, evolution of life, the human body, structure and development of
ecosystem, terrestrial formations and surface processes, atmospheric
processes, the solar system, as well as the universe. SCI 2600 includes
laboratory experiments that focus on biology and the earth sciences.

The successful candidate will be willing and able to work and interact with
a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff and should be sensitive
to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.
Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per
credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, usually on a semester by
semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not covered under the University's
benefit program. Teaching assignments are dependent on both budget and
enrollment. An affiliate faculty member's duties include: meeting assigned
classes or delivering on-line content consistent with university,
college/school, and departmental policies; providing instruction in assigned
classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular
course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination
policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to
students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as
needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with
university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer
observation policies.
Teaching may also include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction;
face-to-face instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and/or any EAS related
discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate and teaching experience.
Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban
student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA
students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students,
students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students,
student veterans, and English language learners.
