The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES)
<https://cires.colorado.edu/outreach/> Education & Outreach Program has an
opening for a part-time or full-time position (75-100%). CIRES Education &
Outreach provides engagement and education opportunities around science
topics for students, teachers, and the science-interested public. We seek to
hire a candidate with diverse skills in community engagement, ideally with
diverse communities (e.g., Indigenous Communities, LatinX, rural), and
curriculum development for science curriculum for classroom or
out-of-classroom educational context. The successful candidate will split
their time between an informal science learning and community engagement
program focused on water topics in the Southwestern US and developing
science curriculum.

CIRES Education & Outreach is a team of 24 outreach, education and
evaluation professionals. CIRES E&O is a well-known and trusted partner for
connecting CIRES science with educators, learners and communities. We strive
to make research data accessible, inspire environmental action and empower
curiosity and scientific engagement. We provide accessible, inclusive,
high-quality environmental science curriculum and informal learning
experiences, as well as meaningful professional and career development
opportunities.

 

 


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Community engagement to support a traveling exhibition about water in the
Southwestern United States: Independently lead the community engagement for
the  <https://wearewater.colorado.edu/> We are Water program, an informal
science project in which a traveling exhibit focused on water topics is
deployed to rural and small libraries in the Four Corners Region. The
exhibit tour includes community engagement activities and events in the Four
Corners Region. The engagement coordinator will be working closely with our
library partners, Indigenous, Latinx and rural community partners to engage
communities in activities that accompany the exhibit and develop new
partnerships. Duties include but are not limited to:

*	Build partnerships with community representatives and libraries in
rural, Indigenous and Latinx communities in the Four Corners region
*	Connect with diverse networks of educators, students, scientists,
library staff and community members, with audience bases ranging from rural
Colorado to nationwide audiences.
*	Organize and hold engaging programming to support the library
exhibit.

Curriculum development for K-12 students around Earth and Environmental
Science topics (current foci include wind, water, polar regions, and
climate) for in-school and out-of-school learning. Specific responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:

*	Develop engaging, data-driven, hands-on units and lessons that use
established research-backed pedagogy.
*	Collaborate with CIRES scientists to translate research for learners
and incorporate authentic scientific data into educational materials.
*	Incorporate current instructional strategies into curriculum design
and develop assessment tools and grading rubrics.
*	Design learning experiences for informal education environments
(e.g., experiential learning).

Additional tasks include:

*	Write newsletters and engagement materials.
*	Support the CIRES Education & Outreach research and evaluation teams
in data collection in communities.
*	Present program results at local, regional and national conferences.
*	Travel to support community events and set up the library exhibit
(6-8 short trips/year).


What You Should Know


*	The position will be filled as a part-time or full-time (75-100%)
research faculty position at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
*	While we offer a hybrid work environment, the successful candidate
will work 2-3 days/week in the Boulder office. The position requires about
6-8 short work trips per year.
*	Applicants must be currently authorized to legally work in the
United States.

What We Can Offer


*	CIRES can offer a generous compensation package. Salary is
commensurate with education and experience and determined based on our CIRES
internal career track classification.
*	The annual hiring salary range for this position is $55,000-$66,000
(for 100% full-time equivalent)
*	A modest amount of relocation funds are available for this position
following CIRES and the University of Colorado's relocation processes and
procedures.
