*JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:*

The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State
University (University Park, PA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral
Scholar position investigating tropical cyclones in climate models. The
successful candidate will conduct collaborative research supervised by
Assistant Professors Anthony Didlake and Colin Zarzycki in the Department
of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science. The research project will
investigate the physical processes, variability, and model representation
of tropical cyclone evolution in a suite of high-resolution global Earth
system models. Responsibilities will include identifying and extracting
individual storm events from spatiotemporally continuous model data,
developing novel techniques to evaluate simulations against reanalysis and
observational datasets, leading peer-reviewed journal articles, and
presenting results to scientists in the tropical cyclone community at
conferences and workshops.

A Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a related discipline is required by the
start date of employment. The initial term of the appointment is one year
from the date of hire, with funding available for 6 additional months
contingent on successful performance, and possibility of renewal beyond
that pending available funding and satisfactory performance.

For full consideration, applicants must upload the following materials with
their application: 1.) a cover letter including a statement of research
interests, 2.) a CV, and 3.) names and contact information for three
references. Application review will begin immediately and will continue
until the position is filled. Preference will be given to applications
received before December 17, 2021. Applicants from demographic groups
underrepresented in the atmospheric sciences are especially encouraged to
apply. For any questions, please contact Anthony Didlake (didlake at psu.edu)
and/or Colin Zarzycki (czarzycki at psu.edu).

The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
takes an active role in building a talented, inclusive, and culturally
competent workforce. We understand that our shared future is guided by
basic principles of fairness, mutual respect, and commitment to each other.
Applicants should provide evidence, either woven through their application
materials or as a separate diversity statement, of a commitment to
fostering diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and belonging and of
engagement which creates an inclusive environment in their
department/workplace.
