Science Project Manager

Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually

Summary/Purpose:
PFS Science Project Managers are responsible for the planning, documentation and coordination of Arctic research projects (typically based in Alaska, Greenland, Russia, and/or Canada). Science Project Managers work directly with researchers, service-providers and government agencies to coordinate logistics for NSF-funded research. PM's oversee all aspects of initiating, planning, coordinating, documenting, and closing out research projects within an approved budget. PM's also work closely with Operations team members to share project information to ensure efficient scheduling and for resource-planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management

  *   Develop and implement support for Arctic-based research projects, following company guidelines and procedures.
  *   Develop budgets for proposing, pending, and approved science. Manage projects within the NSF-approved cost scope, including accurate and timely project reporting and change management.
  *   Develop statements of work and requisitions for commercial services, and function as the contracting officer's technical representative for operations.
  *   Ensure the accuracy of planning documents, including project summaries, season plans, and other program documentation.
  *   Coordinate with staff, team partners, researchers, and vendors to implement all aspects of support to ensure there is adequate inventory and/or services to support requirements.
  *   Conduct project closeout and Outbriefs at the end of each field season.
  *   Coordinate with local communities and agencies regarding support for projects.
  *   Assist with proposal review.
  *   Provide rapid accurate response to requests and inquires.
Team Participation

  *   Work with the Operations team and other internal stakeholders to plan field support.
  *   Work with the Operations team during the field season, problem-solving and managing change.
  *   Assist other team members with aspects of project management when necessary.
  *   Participate in regional team meetings.
  *   Contribute required information for weekly reports, end-of-season reports, and for the Annual Program Plan development.
HSE

  *   Adheres to PFS Health, Safety and Environment policies in planning and execution of activities.
  *   Conducts risk assessments with all science projects.
General

  *   Use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and scheduling software applications to prepare correspondence, plans, reports, schedules, and other documents related to the project.
  *   Provide input to continuously improve operations and streamline processes.
  *   Participate in conferences and workshops as required.
  *   Other duties as requested and required.
Minimum Qualifications (Prior to Employment):
Education and Experience:
BS/BA from an accredited college or university and 5 years related work experience.
Licensure(s)/Certifications/Travel Documents:  PMP Certification is required - employment is contingent upon receiving the certification within 6 months of the hire date
Other Requirements:

  *   Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.  Polar Field Services cannot sponsor employment based work visas.
  *   Current and valid driver's license with insurable Department of Motor Vehicle record (parking violations, minor driving offenses excluded).
  *   Regular and predictable onsite attendance as well as availability to work extended hours, including afterhours/weekends and on-call.
Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Knowledge of Arctic environments preferred
  *   Knowledge of remote fieldwork and science support preferred

Location: Prefer Denver or Fairbanks based.
Work Schedule:
Position will require weekend work and/or deployment to the field during the field season. Position may require 40+ hours per week at times. Limited time-off, by prior approval, during the field season (~April 15 - Sept 15).
Required Travel:

  *   Expected travel: 1-2 trips within the Arctic (each trip up to three weeks) and 1-2 stateside trips annually (each trip 3-7 days).
  *   The position requires willingness to travel to Arctic field sites for up to 3 consecutive weeks annually.
