Job Description
The NREL's National Wind Technology Center has an immediate opening for a post-doc position in the Wind Energy Science Group to support field experiments taking place in 2022-2023 focusing on wind turbine and wind plant aerodynamics. Applicants will be involved in experiment planning, execution, simulation, and data analysis for scientific discovery and model validation. Unique aspects of this opportunity are the ability to work directly with a wind turbine manufacturer and other national laboratories, having exclusive access to cutting-edge facilities, data, and expertise.
The applicants are expected to have experience working with remote sensing atmospheric data or wind turbine simulations across modeling fidelity levels. A strong candidate will have experience in both experimental data analysis and simulation work. The position requires excellent communication skills and the desire and ability to lead peer-reviewed journal publications from start to finish while working independently and in a group setting.
.
Basic Qualifications
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
.
Additional Required Qualifications
* Knowledge of the physics of fluid dynamics in wind energy
* Experience with either modeling or measurements of wind turbines and wind turbine wakes (both is preferred)
* Evidence of ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Established publication record in peer-reviewed journals
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* PhD in engineering, atmospheric science, or relevant related field
* Expertise in wind turbine aerodynamic and aeroelastic measurements and modeling;
* Experience conducting wind measurements with remote sensing instruments (e.g. lidar, radar, ceilometer...);
* Experience processing atmospheric flux measurements;
* Experience performing numerical simulations of atmospheric turbulence, wind turbines, and wind turbine wakes
.
Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Annual Salary Range: $68,000 - $112,200
Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
