Postdoctoral Position in Multi-Wavelength Studies of Supernova Remnants



Applications are now being accepted for a Postdoctoral Associate, to work in the X-ray Astrophysics Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The position is funded through the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) and the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Sciences & Technology II (CRESST II). The start date is flexible but with a preferred start on or before September 1, 2021.



The Postdoctoral Associate will work with Dr. Brian Williams on studies of supernovae and supernova remnants across multiple wavelengths. Dr. Williams has ample observational projects in need of analysis and publication; the postdoc will be encouraged to not only work with these new and archival data but also to apply for new observational and/or funding proposals. The pursuit of independent projects and new avenues for research is highly encouraged. The postdoc will be encouraged to publish papers and present research at appropriate conferences, and will be financially supported in doing so.



Candidates for this position should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics, with prior experience in high energy astrophysics scientific research. The position includes a competitive salary and funding for travel, computing equipment, publications, and moving expenses. The initial funding for this position will be for two years, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding.
