Job Description:

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the State University of
New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position
as an Assistant Professor with broad experience in geology and ability to
contribute to a nationally recognized program in Earth Science teacher
preparation beginning Fall 2021. The professional obligation is for a
ten-month academic year. Expectations include teaching, research, student
advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

The eight-member Department is multi-disciplinary with undergraduate
programs in geology, earth science, earth science education, and
meteorology. The Department strongly encourages its faculty to
conduct/supervise research projects that involve undergraduates. We have a
strong history of excellence in teaching, faculty-student mentoring, and
continued contact with alumni. The Department is part of the School of
Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 2,400 students

Duties include but not limited to: teaching undergraduate courses in areas
such as geoscience education, introductory geology, introductory
oceanography; possibly other courses such as historical geology,
environmental geology, sedimentary geology or other courses to meet
department needs; advising and mentoring undergraduate students;
professional development; service on college/departmental committees;
providing outreach and professional development opportunities for in-service
earth science teachers.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in geology with a strong background or
experience in geoscience education with a focus in teacher preparation -or-
Ed.D. in geoscience education and strong background in geology (ABD
considered, doctorate required by time of first renewal notification);
field-oriented approach to teaching and research; willingness to conduct
research with undergraduate students; ability to work collaboratively with
faculty in science teacher education.

Preferred: experience with science teacher preparation; at least three years
of experience of teaching high school or middle school earth science;
experience with providing professional development for science teachers;
additional expertise in one or more fields including: hydrogeology,
environmental geology, soil science, or sedimentology; and experience
working with diverse populations and/or pedagogies and/or multicultural
teaching experience.
