Faculty in Atmospheric Science (Open Rank)

The Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to fill a faculty position in atmospheric science at any rank, starting Fall 2020. We are seeking candidates with expertise in high-performance computing or remote sensing; preference will be given to candidates that can leverage existing airborne observational capabilities, supercomputing facilities, or can combine remote sensing with high-performance computing. The successful candidate will build upon existing strengths in the Department that aim to promote a deeper understanding of atmospheric processes and phenomena. Distinguished scientists who lack previous university experience but possess a commitment to and potential for effective teaching and external funding in a university setting are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have earned Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a related field, and will be expected to develop an independent and externally funded research program, contribute to innovative teaching, advise graduate students, and collaborate with current faculty.

The Department of Atmospheric Science (www.atmos.uwyo.edu<http://www.atmos.uwyo.edu>) is housed in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at UW, and concentrates principally on research and graduate education, with strengths in the study of precipitation, cloud and aerosol physics, trace gas chemistry, and cloud-scale modeling. The Department operates a King Air atmospheric research aircraft and is preparing a new King Air with state-of-the art in situ and remote sensors. We have privileged access to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)-Wyoming Supercomputing Center through a partnership with NCAR and operate a local high-performance computing cluster, Teton. We also house the Keck Aerosol Lab, a Mobile Air Chemistry Research Lab, and the Wyoming Air Quality Assessment Monitoring Lab. Our research is enabled by a team of research scientists, engineers and technicians. The University of Wyoming is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, and is committed to equality in hiring opportunities, and to diversity of its workforce and students.

Applications should include a cover letter with contact information for three references, a CV, a research statement, and a teaching statement, and need to be submitted here<https://uwyo.taleo.net/careersection/00_ex/jobdetail.ftl?job=19004868&lang=en>. This search will remain open until the position is filled. The candidate selection process will start on 21 January 2020. Questions should be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Bart Geerts (geerts at uwyo.edu<mailto:geerts at uwyo.edu>).
