*Subject: *CHARS Chief Scientist Position**
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce the posting of
the Canadian High Arctic Research Station's (CHARS) first key leadership
position, the Chief Scientist. As a high-profile position, the Chief
Scientist will significantly contribute to the world-class stature
envisioned for CHARS.
As you may recall, in August 2012, the Prime Minister announced
$46,200,000 over six years for the CHARS Science and Technology (S&T)
Program. It was also announced that an additional $26,500,000 per year
has been set aside, as of 2018-2019, for the on-going program and
operations of the station. This S&T funding has allowed us to take the
next step in the development of the CHARS S&T program and the CHARS
organization.
The Chief Scientist will guide the launch of the CHARS S&T program and
be responsible for establishing the year-round presence in Cambridge
Bay. They will also be a key broker of partnerships between CHARS and
stakeholders such as polar institutions, the private sector, academics,
Northerners and federal departments. For specific details about the
requirements for this position please consult the following job posters:
The internal poster on jobs.gc.ca can be found at:

The poster can also be found on the Public Service Resourcing System for
non-government applicants at:

The closing date to apply is September 20, 2013.
In addition, we are preparing to post this job opportunity in various
national and northern newspapers in order to reach as many potential
candidates as possible.
I encourage you to distribute this job posting through your networks
and/or to forward provide it to any individual that you feel would be
the right inaugural Chief Scientist for CHARS. Interested applicants can
find more information about CHARS at:www.Science.gc.ca/CHARS
