Dear Colleagues,
The GEM Focus Group (FG) ‘Impact of the cold plasma in magnetospheric physics’ is organizing two sessions at the Virtual GEM meeting, 20-23 July 2020.
The first session is on Thursday July 23rd 1:00 PM-2:30 PM EDT and seeks community input on the activities of the FG for the next years.
The second session is on Thursday July 23rd 3:00 PM-4:30 PM EDT and focuses on the impact of the cold plasma in the inner magnetosphere. The session is organized jointly with the ‘Self-Consistent Inner Magnetospheric Modeling’, and ‘System Understanding of Radiation Belt Particle Dynamics through Multi-spacecraft and Ground-based Observations and Modeling’ Focus Groups and is structured as follows:
- 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM EDT. Scene-setting talk by Dan Welling
- 3:15 PM - 3:30 PM EDT. Scene-setting talk by Lynn Kistler
- 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM EDT. Contributed talks and open discussion
Contributed talks will be limited to 2-3 slides per contribution and we will keep the list of contributions on the FG website. Please contact Gian Luca Delzanno (delzanno at lanl.gov) to arrange your contribution.
Some topics of interest include:
- wave-particle interaction physics: how cold plasma affects wave properties, including heating
- outflows, warm cloak, plumes
- pulsating aurora
- how local/microscopic codes can inform global codes
Here is the link to the website where all activities and updates will be posted:
