Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national
leader in scientific research and development, located midway between
Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher.

Duties: Conduct research of atmospheric shocks, meteor ablation physics,
atmospheric gravity waves, or traveling ionospheric disturbances. (100%)

Required Qualifications:

* Completion of all requirements for a PhD or equivalent degree in
Physics, Atmospheric Science, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or closely related field is
required by the start date (available immediately).

* Experience with scientific computing and data analysis techniques for
upper atmospheric and space physics are required.

* Knowledge of IDL, Python, or MATLAB high-level programming languages is
required.

* A successful candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal
skills to collaborate with a diverse group of research scientists and
engineers across the Space Exploration Sector and Laboratory as a whole.

Desired Qualifications:

* Strengths or interests in one (more than one strongly desired) of the
following topics: 1. Numerical or analytical modeling of atmospheric
shocks, turbulence, or gravity waves. 2. Numerical or analytical modeling
of ionospheric plasma instabilities and processes. 3. Data assimilation
modeling. 4. Analysis of observations from disparate or multimodal (e.g.,
RF and optical) instruments. 5. Novel signal processing techniques,
especially for sensor arrays. 6. Numerical or analytical modeling of
meteor ablation physics.

* Experience with model codes written in FORTRAN and C.

* Experience working with a variety of remote sensing datasets including
GNSS, coherent ionospheric radars, and optical imaging systems, as well as
data from outside the ionosphere-thermosphere research community,
including but not limited to, fireball meteor databases and infrasound
networks.
