Electro-Optics Systems Engineer, ASTRA, Boulder CO
Work with the collaborative research team within ASTRA, LLC in our Boulder, CO office, to advance electro-optical technologies for commercial and scientific applications. The central function will be to lead the development of a polarization lidar system for commercial applications. More specifically the successful candidate will design, develop, integrate, and test a prototype system for measurement of fluid depth, and lead exploration into various fields of application and/or research. The position also involves activities that advance professional growth through exploring scientific research opportunities, proposal writing, participating in other projects at ASTRA, training students and young researchers, and advancing novel ideas into realities. Some travel is expected, to present results at scientific conferences and to interact with clients. Documenting the results of the research in scientific publications and presenting these results at seminars and conferences is expected.
Required Experience: PhD level in physics, atmospheric science, electrical engineering or a related field is desired.
Experience with electro-optical systems (lidar systems are a plus), optical theory and design, detectors and data acquisition, light propagation and scattering. The candidate should be familiar with diagnostic equipment. Computer programming skills with experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Fortran-77/90, IDL, MatLab, LabView) and operating systems (e.g., Unix/Linux and Windows XP) is required. Demonstrate aptitude for independent project management, as well as collaborative work in a multidisciplinary environment with commensurate accomplishments. Must have good oral and written skills in English. Must have the ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal supervision.
