The Department of Geology at Kent State University seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member in Hydrogeology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level starting August 2017. The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D., have a strong background in the geological sciences, and be able to interface well with other faculty working in a variety of earth and environmental specialties.

Potential areas of expertise include but are not limited to: physical hydrogeology, computational/numerical methods, groundwater modeling, hydrogeophysics, vadose zone hydrology, reactive transport modeling, hydrogeologic applications of remote sensing, and engineering hydrogeology. Responsibilities will include advising M.S. and Ph.D. candidates; developing a strong, externally funded research program, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Applicants who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of Kent State University are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Geology has 12 full-time faculty members, 110 undergraduates and 35 graduate students. Current faculty research includes the areas of critical zone science, watershed hydrology, surface water-groundwater interactions, climate change, tectonics and landform development, contaminant transport, water-mineral surface interactions, paleoceanography and paleolimnology, and paleontology.

The department houses an array of analytical instruments that support applied and basic geologic research, including a Hitachi environmental SEM with EDAX, Energy Dispersive XRF spectrometer, CHNS analyzer, X-ray diffractometer, Picarro Water Isotope Analyzer, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Shimadzu TOC-L analyzer, and Dionex ICS-2100 chromatography system and access to the Ohio Supercomputer Center. Field resources include an on-campus well field and multiple university-owned natural areas. There are excellent opportunities for cooperative research and teaching both within the Department and with faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Public Health. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2016 and continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should send their curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, and contact information of three references to geology at kent.edu<mailto:geology at kent.edu> or Department of Geology, Kent State University, Kent OH 44242.
