WHERE:
At Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR) located in the city of
Bergen, Norway. BCCR has about 75 employees and focus on the northern
Atlantic climate system. The centre has been awarded the status “Centre
of Excellency” by the Norwegian Research Council, and is participating
in the United Nations climate panel (IPCC) where simulations from a
fully coupled climate model are provided. Bergen is located by the ocean
and surrounded by mountains with great opportunities for outdoor
activities. The BCCR has a relatively young staff including many post
docs and PhD students.
WHEN:
The duties for the PhD candidate will commence in the autumn of 2007.
SUBJECT:
The successful applicant will focus his/her work on studying the
development of extreme weather in the polar region and its implication
on air-sea interaction in the climate system. The study will make use of
a simplified coupled system where a mixed layer model for the ocean and
a wave model will be coupled to an atmospheric component (wrf). More

REQUIREMENTS
The applicants must hold a Master’s degree in either meteorology,
oceanography, mathematics or physics before the deadline of the
application. The deadline will be set later, and interested potential
applicants not yet graduated are asked to notify the BCCR when the
graduation is expected so that the deadline maybe set accordingly.
