[ncl-talk] NCL plotting error

Hi all,

I wanted to follow up on this thread with a solution for anyone else experiencing the same error.

There is apparently a bug in the Ubuntu 16.04 “ncl-ncarg” package (version 6.3.0) installed via apt-get. We (NCL developers) are not the maintainers of the Ubuntu NCL package, so our recommendation in this situation is to install NCL from a source that we have control over. You can either download an NCL tarball from our website (see http://ncl.ucar.edu/Download/ <http://ncl.ucar.edu/Download/> and https://www.earthsystemgrid.org/dataset/ncl.640.html <https://www.earthsystemgrid.org/dataset/ncl.640.html>) or install NCL using conda (see conda installation instructions <http://ncl.ucar.edu/Download/conda.shtml>).

For reference, the “Debian 8.6” tarball on the Earth System Grid website is the most compatible download option if you are using Ubuntu 16.04.
