[ncl-talk] Grib2 files on OpenDAP with Centos 7

HI Mary
Sorry for the delay on this.
Centos 7 shows the same problem with GRIB2 files failing with OPeNDAP as we had earlier with Centos 6.
fatal:_NclFileCreate: Requested file does not exist as (http://kyrill.ias.sdsmt.edu:8080/thredds/dodsC/BWW_GENS/2016/01/01/gens003_WRFRAP_ALL_2016-01-01_00.wrf_ci_turb.grib2) or as (http://kyrill.ias.sdsmt.edu:8080/thredds/dodsC/BWW_GENS/2016/01/01/gens003_WRFRAP_ALL_2016-01-01_00.wrf_ci_turb), can't add file
fatal:file (f) isn't defined
fatal:["Execute.c":8640]:Execute: Error occurred at or near line 129 in file read_z500_ensembles_from_thredds.ncl
This code works on the Mac. Not sure if the Centos 6 modifications you made for 6.4.1-16May2017_1144 would be applicable to Centos 7.
Cheers and Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill,
I'm so sorry, it looks like we didn't follow-up on this one. I'm not aware of any issues specifically under CentOS7. Were you ever able to get this issue resolved?

Hi All.. Sorry to bring a dead horse back from the grave but is that GRIB reading problem also on Centos7? We’re doing upgrades here in our computer lab and we are getting hit with that one.
Cheers and Thanks

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your patience.
I have a CentOS 6.9 binary (our Centos 6.8 system got upgraded) for you to try.
Same instructions as for "ncl_fix_sierra", except now the file is called "ncl_fix_centos69".
------
Note to other users: Kevin told me offline that he was able to get the MacOS Sierra binary to work by setting:
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to /opt/local/lib/gcc5
This was necessary because NCL was trying to load system libraries from /usr/local instead.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for that; unfortunately I have not been able to run the Sierra binaries that your group has provided as I quickly get into DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH hell when I run either the original 6.4.0 release or the update you provided below. The only Sierra version that loads without library errors is the one that I installed via MacPorts.
If you do get a CentOS 6.8 build available, let me know!
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
Sorry for the delay.
I can't get onto the CentOS 6.8 system at the moment, but I have a new Sierra "ncl" executable for you to try.
To get the test executable:
wget ftp.ucar.edu:/pub/scd/haley/ncl_fix_sierra<ftp://ftp.ucar.edu:/pub/scd/haley/ncl_fix_sierra>
Once you have the file, move it to $NCARG_ROOT/bin and make sure it is executable. You can call it whatever you like:
chmod gou+x ncl_fix_sierra
mv ncl_fix_sierra $NCARG_ROOT/bin/.
Now you can use this new "ncl.fix" executable instead of the one already installed on your system:
ncl_fix_sierra your_script.ncl
If you are comfortable that this executable works, you can replace your old ncl executable with this new one. You should first make a copy of your old one:
cd $NCARG_ROOT/bin
mv $NCARG_ROOT/bin/ncl $NCARG_ROOT/bin/ncl.old
mv $NCARG_ROOT/bin/ncl_fix_sierra $NCARG_ROOT/bin/ncl
It will have a weird version, because this is pre-alpha version:
6.4.1-11Mayk2017_1416

Hi,
I'm following up on a thread started a couple weeks ago regarding problems opening OpenDAP-served files ending in ".grib2" in NCL 6.4.0. I just started playing with 6.4.0 and quickly ran into this issue. It was mentioned that the problem had been fixed in the development branch of NCL. Is there a link where I can grab compiled versions of this for CentOS 6.8 and Mac OSX Sierra?
Thanks,
Kevin
