Sharon,
If you simply want to plot your WRF data in a cylindrical projection, you
don't need to transform the coordinates first. NCL will do this for you if
you provide the XLAT/XLONG information to the plotting script.

The first image of this example is a plot of WRF data using a cylindrical
projection.
