You could try executing this line in an interactive NCL session pretty
easily to figure out what is wrong with the line.
Here is an example session:
ncl 0> it = 3
ncl 1> cmd="convert -trim "animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png"
"animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png"
fatal:syntax error: line 1 before or near animate
cmd="convert -trim "animate
--------------------------^
ncl 2> cmd="convert -trim animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png"
"animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png"
fatal:syntax error: line 2 before or near "animate
cmd="convert -trim animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png" "animate"
--------------------------------------------------------------^
ncl 3> cmd="convert -trim animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png
animate"+sprinti("%03i",it)+".png"
ncl 4> print (cmd)
Variable: cmd
Type: string
Total Size: 8 bytes
1 values
Number of Dimensions: 1
Dimensions and sizes: [1]
Coordinates:
(0) convert -trim animate003.png animate003.png
Not sure if this is the command you want but maybe you can take it from here.
