[ncl-install] Linux mint / libssl.so.0.9.8

Dear mailing-list-members,

I try to install NCL on Linux but still get missing libssl-error after 
install from this test:

www.ncl.ucar.edu/Download/install.shtml#TestNCL

... ncl: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot 
open shared object file: ...

My System is:

Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa
Kernel 3.19.0-32-generic
ncl-ncarg 6.3.0
openssl 1.0.1

PLUS:

LD_Library_Path set correctly (Here: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.8 
and /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.8)

What can I do to get rid of this error?
