Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
I have a question about Point-Stat and duplicate observations. In my
Point-Stat config file, I have obs_window set to +- 30 minutes and
duplicate_flag=UNIQUE. My question is if there are two or more
observations with the same lat/lon/level and elevation, but different
report times within that 60 minute window, will it use all those
duplicate observations (with different report times) for verification or
will it only use one duplicate observation with report time closest to
the analysis time. If the former, is there a way I can specify that it
only use one duplicate observation with report time closest to the
analysis time?
Thanks,
Annette

Annette,
Yes there is. You’re very close. We don’t consider multiple obs at
the
same location at different times to be true “duplicates”. They are
just
multiple obs... and you can use the obs_summary config file option to
control the logic.
Set:
obs_summary = NEAREST;
And you can read more about those options starting on line 1469 here:
https://github.com/NCAR/MET/blob/master_v8.1/met/data/config/README
Hope that clarifies.
Thanks
John
