Dear Sir/Madam,

When I use the plot_data_plane utility to process the output from series_analysis tool, I encounter the following problem:

ERROR  :
ERROR  : yyerror() -> syntax error in file "string"
ERROR  :
ERROR  :    line   = 1
ERROR  :
ERROR  :    column = 3
ERROR  :
ERROR  :    text   = "(nul)"
ERROR  :
ERROR  :
ERROR  : (nul)
ERROR  : (nul)
ERROR  :

The data used is attached. And the command I use is ./series_analysis series_analysis_output.nc series_analysis_out.ps series_cnt_ME

The version for MET is V4.1.

It seems that the error comes from configuring series_cnt_ME. I wonder how shall I set the option for config_string? Thank you!

Hello Yangyang,

I see that you are having some trouble running the Plot-Data-Plane
utility
on the output of the Series-Analysis tool.

Looks like you're very close, but the trouble is in the 3rd argument,
the
"field_string".  This string is basically a mini configuration file to
specify the data you'd like to plot.  It should include at least the
"name"
and "level" of the data you want.  Please try this:

./series_analysis series_analysis_output.nc series_analysis_out.ps
'name="series_cnt_ME"; level="(*,*)";'

This follows exactly the same conventions used in the MET
configuration
files to specify what field you'd like to use.  In fact, it's parsed
with
the same library code.

I suspect this is confusing because we don't have very good examples
out
there for Plot-Data-Plane.  And I apologize for that.  I'm working on
updates to the MET online tutorial for version 5.2 which will include
more
examples for this tool.  If you'd like a sneak peek of the work in
