[Met_help] [rt.rap.ucar.edu #69030] History for ASCII2NC Problem

  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

First, I'm using MET v4.1 (I know I should upgrade, but I can't download 5.0 for some reason; AFWA has chosen to block it).

I am trying to run ASCII2NC but I'm having a problem with getting it to work right.

I have a text file with the required 11 columns of data, one observation per line, as directed in the User Manual.

For some reason, no matter how many records I have in the ASCII file, the converted NetCDF file contains only one lat/lon header record, the first one in the ASCII file, but all of the observation records (1820 in this case).

I have attached the input ASCII text and output NetCDF file... I'm curious if you can replicate the problem or, when you run it, you get the same output.

I don't see any place where I explicitly define the header size, but I assumed it would be the same as the observation count.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt.

I believe that this is a bug for which a fix was posted on 10/24/2013:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/known_issues/METv4.1/index.php

When I run with METv4.1 as originally released, I see the behavior you
describe:
DEBUG 2: Finished processing 1820 observations for 1 headers.

When I run with METv4.1 plus all posted bugfixes, the issue goes away:
DEBUG 2: Finished processing 1820 observations for 1820 headers.
Please download the patch file at the link above, follow the
directions for
installing the updates, and let us know if that resolves the issue
you're
seeing.

Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your quick reply. I will download it... somehow. When I
click the link I get a blocked button courtesy the USAF, saying your
web site is classified as "business/economy" and unsafe for my
perusal. I'll check it out after I get a work-around. This was never
a problem before-it's always something around here...

Thanks,
Matt
