Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello!
My name is Diego and I writing to you from Costa Rica.
I tried installing the METv4.1 and METv5.0, but failure in the attempt
In both cases, the problem I had was with some NetCDF files. Apparently, it is easy to solve the problem, but some reason I can not! I read the online-tutorial and help-online and nothing has worked for me .
I have installed the netcdf 4.1.3, which is the same as is currently using the WRFv3 and works well.
I attached the make_log both files so they can see my errors.
If you can help me, it will be very very grateful

Hi Diego.
Thanks for downloading the latest release of MET, version 5.0. Let's
stick
with that version, if that will work for you, since it is the latest
and
greatest and includes bug fixes and enhancements on previous versions.
I
see that you're having trouble configuring/compiling it. We switched
over
to using autoconf for building MET version 5.0. In previous
versions, you
edited a file by hand and then typed "make". Now, you run the
configure
script. Please read through the top-level met-5.0/README file for
instructions about building MET.
You will need to set several environment variables to tell the
configure
script where to find the dependent libraries. For example, MET_NETCDF
tells it where to find NetCDF. nc_var_inco.cc is looking for
netcdf.hh.
That's the include file for the C++ interface. There are many
different
ways of compiling NetCDF, and MET expects the C++ interface to be
compiled. There are some instructions for compiling NetCDF for MET
here,
in case you need it:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/METv5.0/compilation/req_libs.php
Please take a look at the instructions for compiling NetCDF for MET
and at
the top-level met-5.0/README file for instructions about building MET
and
let us know if you continue to experience problems.
Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie,
I've been busy of the office and I made ??little progress in the MET
installation.
I'm still having problems installing the NETCDF-4.1.3, because even I
follow the tutorial online, still missing the netcdf.hh file
As I said in my last email, I have installed the WRFv3 with NETCDF-3.6
that includes the netcdf.hh file and is working well. So I tried to
install the MET using the route of the old NETCDF still not working.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks for your help

Hi Diego. I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with the
netcdf.hh
file. I'd suggest downloading and compiling NetCDF 3.6.3 locally
using the
following steps:
Download NetCDF 3.6.3 from here:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/netcdf/ftp/netcdf-3.6.3.tar.gz
Then run:
tar -zxf netcdf-3.6.3.tar.gz
./configure --prefix=`pwd`
make
make install
These commands should compile the C and C++ interfaces for NetCDF and
skip
the Fortran interface that MET doesn't use. It will install the
library in
current "netcdf-3.6.3" directory due to the --prefix=`pwd` option.
Next, you'll need to edit where you set MET_NETCDF to point to this
new
location, source your .cshrc or similiar file, and rebuild MET.
I ran all of these steps and was able to get a successful build and
install
of METv5.0.
Please give this a try and let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie!
Thanks for your help with NETCDF, finally I could do it.
But, now a have new problems...
When I compiled the MET, I used this command:
./configure --prefix=`pwd` --enable-grib2 --enable-modis --enable-
mode_graphics
But appears this error: 'grib2.h: file doesn't exist' and it is
relates with GRIB2 files.
So I remembered that I don't compiled any libraries to GRIB2,Mode-
Graphics or MODIS because it is optional.
Here is my error

Hi Diego. I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with the
netcdf.hh file. I'd suggest downloading and compiling NetCDF 3.6.3

Download NetCDF 3.6.3 from here:

make
make install
These commands should compile the C and C++ interfaces for NetCDF and

Next, you'll need to edit where you set MET_NETCDF to point to this

I ran all of these steps and was able to get a successful build and
install of METv5.0.
Please give this a try and let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Julie

Subject: MET Installing problems
From: Julie Prestopnik
Time: Mon Oct 27 09:22:05 2014
Hi Diego. I'm sorry that you are still having some problems getting
MET
built and installed. Thank you for sending the errors and log files.
I see
that you chose not to enable various options because they are
optional. If
you would like to get the grib2 support working, please let me know.
It
may just be an issue with environment variables.
Regarding the other error you are seeing, we recently received a
helpdesk
ticket with this same problem and have posted a set of patches that
should
resolve this problem.
Please follow the instructions posted here to download
and apply the latest set of patches:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/known_issues/METv5.0/index.php
Please let me know if you continue to experience problems with MET.
Thanks,
Julie

Subject: MET Installing problems
From: Juan Diego Naranjo Díaz

Hi Julie!
It's me again, I really sorry to bother you so much, but I still have
problems.
I tried rebuild the MET using the patches and now I had trouble with
the BUFR. I don't know why it's trying to find "-lbufr" in the path
-/usr/bin- when it does 'make install in pb2nc', if I setting the
BUFRLIB in /home/emsuser/Escritorio/MET/BUFRLIB
I installed again the BUFR, but it's still have the same problem...
Attach to you the make.log file and the procedure that I did to
install the MET.

Diego

Asunto: Re: RV: [rt.rap.ucar.edu #69180] MET Installing problems
Hi Diego. I'm sorry that you are still having some problems getting
MET built and installed. Thank you for sending the errors and log
files. I see that you chose not to enable various options because
they are optional. If you would like to get the grib2 support
working, please let me know. It may just be an issue with environment
variables.
Regarding the other error you are seeing, we recently received a
helpdesk ticket with this same problem and have posted a set of
patches that should resolve this problem.
Please follow the instructions posted here to download and apply the
latest set of patches:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/known_issues/METv5.0/index.php
Please let me know if you continue to experience problems with MET.
Thanks,
Julie

Subject: MET Installing problems
From: Julie Prestopnik
Time: Thu Oct 30 10:44:03 2014
Hi Diego. You're not bothering us at all. We are here to help.
Please
write any time you have any problems.
Thank you for sending the log file. I see that MET cannot find
BUFRLIB:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lbufr
You mentioned that you set the BUFRLIB variable, however MET requires
that
the variable MET_BUFRLIB be set.
From
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/online_tutorial/METv5.0/compilation/configure.php
:
Set *$MET_BUFR* to point to the main BUFR directory, or set
*$MET_BUFRLIB*
to point to the directory with the BUFR library files. Because MET
doesn't
use any BUFR library include files, you don't need to specify
*$MET_BUFRINC*
.
Give that a try and let me know if that solves the problem.
Thanks!
Julie
