  Initial Request
----------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I have been using the MET package now for a week. I am mostly interested in the MODE-tool to perform a validation on my simulated precipitation fields. These precipitation fields are generated while using the RAMS Regional Atmospheric Model. I have created a GRIB file using GrADS and have been able to decode this GRIB file correctly. Next to that, I have also created a GRIB file with an interpolated field of rainfall observations. Both files only have one timestep. I try to use the MODE tool on the GRIB files (attached to this e-mail) but I am stuck with the following error:

bin/mode ../rain.grb ../rainstat.grb tutorial/config/MODEConfig_default
DEBUG 1: Default Config File: /home/maat009/METv3.1/data/config/MODEConfig_default
DEBUG 1: Match Config File: tutorial/config/MODEConfig_default
DEBUG 1: Merge Config File: tutorial/config/MODEConfig_default
DEBUG 1: Forecast File: ../rain.grb
DEBUG 1: Observation File: ../rainstat.grb
WARNING:
WARNING: MetGrib1DataFile::data_plane() -> No exact match found for VarInfo "61/L1" in GRIB file "../rain.grb".
WARNING:
ERROR :
ERROR  : process_fcst_obs_files() -> can't get data from file "../rain.grb"

Could you let me know what is going wrong here? And if possible help me further...

Kind regards,

Herbert ter Maat

Herbert,

Can you please send me your model data, observation data and MODE
configuration file? There are instructions for
uploading data to our FTP site here:
http://www.dtcenter.org/met/users/support/met_help.php#ftp. One
suggestion that I
have is to try using different fcst_field settings in your MODE
configuration file:

fcst_field = "61/RNN" // where NN is the record number of the field
of interest in your model grib file
fcst_field = "61/L0"

You may have to go through a similar process with the obs_field
setting as well. This problem is usually solved through
trial and error. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paul

Paul,

This is the description of the machine that I'm using:
The
WUR HPC cluster machine currently consists of 32 blades, with each 2
quad core (Intel Xeon) processors and 16 Gb RAM. So 256 compute nodes
are available with each a minimum of 2 Gb RAM. All blades are
connected through a low latency interconnect (Infiniband). These
compute nodes are meant for job execution. No software (besides the
operating system) resides on these compute nodes. These are LINUX
based computers.
The compiler that I used are the Intel C compiler
(icc).

Kind regards,
Herbert ter Maat
