I am considering running MET on some WRF runs produced by AFWA with their
unique version of the GRIB table. Does MET have a problem when working with
AFWA WRF runs? If so, what are the symptoms observed and fixes required when
working with AFWA WRF runs?

Thanks.

John,

We have used AFWA model data for experiments in the DTC, and it did
not require any major adjustments. Basically, how
you treat it depends on which field you are verifying. If the field
you are interested in has a grib code of less than
128, you can just use the same field name for AFWA. If not, you will
need to find the index of the field of interest in
the AFWA GRIB table and then go to the corresponding index in the NCEP
PTV 2 table and use the parameter name from that.
Make sure that the grib_ptv setting in the config file stays at 2.
Does that make sense?

If you have trouble, please upload your AFWA model data, obs data file
and config file to our FTP site and I will have a
look. Here are the instructions:

Paul -

Thanks for your quick response. We have been using GRIB codes less
than 128 for our MET assessments, so I will just use that output as I
do with the WRF runs we generate here. If I have a problem we can't
figure out here on this, I will take you up on your offer of
assistance.

John
