Good morning,

If you find yourself needing to write a diversity or inclusion statement
for a job, here's another example of a request for one, below. It will be
required at NCAR|UCAR starting next month in applications for STEM-based
jobs and management positions. To provide some context, here are a couple
of related resources:

1. UCLA Guidance for faculty candidates on writing Equity, Diversity, and
Inclusion Statements
<https://equity.ucla.edu/programs-resources/faculty-search-process/faculty-search-committee-resources/sample-guidance/>
2. Breaking Down Diversity Statements
<https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2018/11/19/new-paper-explores-what-faculty-candidates-include-their-diversity-equity-and>
3. Example diversity statements
<https://ofew.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/example_statements_contributions_to_diversity.pdf>

Once you get one of these written, it will be easier to modify it going
forward. Consider reading the materials linked above and then writing
something quickly (not perfectly) so that you have something to work with.
There are good examples provided in the UCLA guidance. The guidelines for
the UCAR statement are attached.

Inclusion Statements

UCAR/NCAR/UCP embraces a work environment that is inclusive, diverse, and
equitable. Our employees come from a wide diversity of backgrounds, and we
strive to create the kind of inclusive, supportive, and welcoming workplace
that helps our employees reach their potential and will attract and retain
an even greater diversity of individuals in the future.

As part of this commitment, we are asking that all applicants who make it
to the interview stage for STEM-based and management-level positions submit
an  “Inclusion Statement
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/176T_1kr5VB15JLfbBzsGP35lgGAYmbmz/view?usp=sharing>”
that discusses how they have considered and supported inclusion,
diversity, and equity in their previous roles and experiences, and how they
intend to continue this at UCAR. This will be effective across all STEM and
management positions on 2 March, 2020.

The written statement will include a discussion of the applicant's past
activities, projects, or engagement, and plans for future contributions
and activities to enhancing and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion
in support of UCAR/NCAR’s mission.

If you have any questions regarding this initiative please contact Randy
Schalhamer, Talent Acquisition Manager or Carolyn Brinkworth, Chief
Diversity Office
