Postdoc on exposure to and impacts of climate extremes

Uppsala University, Sweden

There is an opening for a postdoc position in my group at Uppsala
University. The *preferred start date is November 2026, but there is
flexibility for earlier or later dates*, and the position is for 24 months.
Do not hesitate to contact me (gabriele.messori at geo.uu.se) should you have
any questions.

*Deadline for applications: 8th June*

*Further details and application form here
<https://uu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:938426/>*

Applications over email will not be accepted.

*The position*

You will work with data collection on and analysis of exposure to, and the
effects of, extreme climate events in the mid-latitudes. The work will
cover various categories of events, such as heatwaves, cold spells, storms,
and droughts. The aim is to link the physical events with exposure and
impacts in a harmonized database. Teaching/supervising duties are possible
on a voluntary basis. You will be based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences in
Uppsala, but will be expected to travel both nationally and
internationally.

*The research group*

I coordinate a lively research group based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences
in Uppsala, which focuses on the dynamics of extreme climate events in the
mid and high latitudes and their impacts. We currently host several
nationally funded and H2020/Horizon Europe projects. More information on
our ongoing research can be found at *https://gmessori.eu/
<https://gmessori.eu/>*. You will contribute to an EU project focussing on
the compilation of data and the attribution of extreme weather events and
their impacts. You will be part of the Swedish Centre for Impacts of
Climate Extremes (climes <https://www.climes.se/>).

*The department*

Uppsala University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university with a
strong international standing. The Department of Earth Sciences (
https://www.geo.uu.se/ <https://www.geo.uu.se/?languageId=1>) is one of the
most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on
subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere and human
society, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the
formation of mountains and oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and
graduate levels.
