The Environmental Science Institute at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a motivated and experienced scientist to join our team as a Research Engineering Scientist Associate V. This research staff position will support and lead interdisciplinary research in environmental science, water resources, and paleoenvironments within the Jackson School of Geosciences.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Geosciences or Environmental Sciences (emphasizing Geochemistry) and at least 6 years of relevant experience, OR Doctoral degree in Geosciences or Environmental Sciences (emphasizing Geochemistry), minimum of 1 year of related experience or a strong record of publication in the field. We seek candidates with experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  1.  Water science, including surface water, groundwater, and water quality
  2.  Paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental reconstructions using proxies such as speleothems, dendrochronology, dendrochemistry, or related archives
  3.  Environmental geochemistry and isotope-based approaches applied to natural systems
  4.  Interdisciplinary and collaborative research addressing climate variability and water-resource resilience

Responsibilities include:

  *   Conduct scientific research and assist students in their research on surface water, aquifers, cave systems, climate variability, paleoenvironmental proxies, and the resilience of water resources in urban and rural settings
  *   Co-supervision of research and laboratory activities of employees, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
  *   Identification of grant opportunities, and inception, writing, editing, and submission of grant proposals working with affiliated ESI faculty.
  *   Assist in the management of the Environmental Science Institute. This includes review and approval of documents online, organization of staff activities, and coordination of ESI's research networks, including the Texas Water Research Network.

Preferred qualifications:

  *   A strong publication record in isotope geochemistry and/or paleo-environmental analysis.
  *   Research experience in scientific studies of sustainable urban systems and community-based participatory research.
  *   Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams

This is a full-time staff position at UT Austin with opportunities for long-term engagement in collaborative, high-impact environmental research.
