Dear colleagues,
The Schmitt Lab for River System Science and Sustainability (RS3
<http://www.riversystem.science/>) at UC Santa Barbara is seeking a
postdoctoral scholar to lead the development of a globally applicable
framework for studying sediment connectivity in river systems. The project
will examine how human activities have altered global riverine sediment
fluxes and sediment transport between sources and sinks since 1950.
A strong interest in sediment transport modeling is essential, but
candidates may come from a range of backgrounds, including fluvial
geomorphology, hydrologic modeling, and water resources engineering.
The position is part of the Digital Atlas of River Ecosystems (DARE), a
multi-institutional project funded by Schmidt Sciences within the Virtual
Institute on Earth’s Water (VIEW), offering substantial opportunities for
interdisciplinary collaboration.
The full job posting and application instructions are available here:
https://recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/JPF03130
A reasonable salary estimate for this position at 100% time is
$71,491–$85,736.
The first review of applications will take place on August 17, 2026.
I would kindly ask you to share this opportunity with suitable candidates
and relevant networks.
Best regards,
Rafael Schmitt
Assistant Professor, UC Santa Barbara
