Cartographer - Research Associate (RA-4) position - permanent

Principal Duties: Convert field data and draft geologic maps from field geologists into final maps and documents that meet USGS standards
(Supported by NCGMP-STATEMAP.)
Collect and manage geological & geophysical data, and geology-related GIS data in database format.
Manage, curate, and ensure accessibility to current, recent, and legacy geo-cartographic media in paper and electronic formats.
Operate and maintain task-related field and cartography lab equipment.
In-office duties require the use of Arc-Map/Arc-pro, and Adobe Illustrator software, and DELL, HP, Xerox, et al, hardware (computers, printers, plotters).

On occasion, the LGS Cartographer produces maps for one of a variety of agencies, such as:
   La Dept of Transportation, La Dept of Env Quality, La Dept of Energy & Natural Resources,
   USACE, (US) BOEM, (US) FEMA

Requisites: BS in Geology / (Physical) Geography*  + 2 years experience  or  MS or PhD in same. (*Or related subject.)
Experience and interest in field mapping of geology or physical geography are highly valued.

The Louisiana Geological Survey produces public information about the geology of the state of Louisiana:
   surface and subsurface geology,
   hydrology,
   geophysics,
   and the relationships between these natural contexts and agriculture, energy resources, Earth materials, infrastructure, and real estate development.

LGS is operated by the Louisiana State University and is located on the LSU Baton Rouge campus.
LGS is a component of the Louisiana Energy Institute within the LSU Office of Research and Economic Development.
