The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track Lecturer of Geology position beginning in August 2026. This position carries a full-time teaching load of 12 contact hours per semester.

The successful candidate will teach general education and upper-level courses in geology and geosciences such as Introductory Geology, Environmental Geology, Earth Materials, Written and/or Oral Communications, Regional Geology, Field Techniques, and Contemporary Geoscience Issues, as well as courses in the candidate’s specialty. Teaching experience in a variety of formats and modalities including a strong field/applied learning component, ability to coordinate introductory lab offerings, and knowledge of and ability to incorporate Southeastern USA geology into course offerings is preferred.

The successful candidate will also participate in departmental activities, provide departmental service, and engage in community outreach to expand our visibility and student enrollment and participation in the Geology and Geosciences programs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  *   A Master’s degree in geology, geosciences, or closely related area with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework is required by August 1, 2026 to be eligible for employment.
  *   Demonstrated ability to coordinate introductory lab offerings
  *   Experience teaching at college level

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:

  *   A Ph.D. degree in geology, geosciences, or closely related area.
  *   Demonstrated experience and commitment to exceptional teaching at the college level beyond teaching assistantship duties.
  *   Demonstrated experience teaching large classes and field/applied-based courses.
  *   Demonstrated experience coordinating undergraduate introductory laboratory sections in geology, environmental geology, or related fields.
  *   Demonstrated interest in Southeastern USA geology.
  *   Demonstrated experience in multiple modes of instruction including in-person and online.
  *   Demonstrated interest or success in outreach efforts to increase visibility, student participation, and enrollment in Earth and Ocean Sciences.
