Summary
The IMPROVE Program at Air Quality Research Center in UC Davis is seeking a field engineer for the field maintenance group. This position requires a range of mechanical and basic electronic skills. The IMPROVE Program measures air quality at approximately 175 sites throughout the United States. The IMPROVE field maintenance team is responsible for maintaining aerosol samplers, and providing technical support to local equipment operators throughout the US.
Under general supervision of the Shop and Field Supervisor, this position will diagnose and repair aerosol particulate samplers, deploy samplers to field locations for routine network and special studies and communicate with network operators at field locations throughout the United States. Field responsibilities include routine and emergency maintenance of the network. Maintain a safe working environment and training of new employees.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  *   Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  *   Undergraduate level engineering course work and/or equivalent experience; Undergraduate-level engineering course work to include classes such as electrical engineering involving analog circuits, statics, fluid dynamics, engineering physics, manufacturing processes which provides some shop experience, process control and/or instrumentation such as strain gauges, thermocouples, etc.
  *   Mechanical experience in vacuum systems, and basic shop techniques.
  *   Electrical experience in basic analog circuitry.
  *   Knowledge of measurement technology including calibrations, sample collection, and data processing.
  *   Computer skills using Windows, Word, Excel, email, internet, and online calendaring.
  *   Interpersonal and communication skills to clearly, diplomatically and effectively interact with individuals of varying perspectives and backgrounds. Skills to research and secure information, resolve problems, and coordinate projects.
Preferred Qualifications

  *   Bachelor's or higher degree in an engineering discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  *   Experience repairing vacuum systems.
  *   Experience providing customer technical support.
  *   Experience operating and maintaining ambient aerosol samplers.
  *   Experience with programing is a plus.
