Dear colleague,
This month I started as Assistant Professor at Umeå University (Sweden), where I will be part of the Ecology department and IceLab<https://icelab.se/> (an interdisciplinary modelling research centre). I have currently two fully funded PhD positions, and maybe you know someone who would be interested in pursuing a PhD with us.
* The first position involves river network modeling of carbon processing, with a focus on methane but will encompass the broader carbon cycle at high latitudes. Co-advisors will be Ryan Sponseller (Professor in Ecosystem Ecology) and Martin Rosvall (Professor in Physics, network science). This position is part of a research school in Stress responses of complex systems (https://icelab.se/activities/research/stress-response-modeling-at-icelab/), where a cohort of PhDs will have a journey together and share courses and activities across disciplines. The application is open until February 16th and can be applied here: https://www.umu.se/en/work-with-us/open-positions/stress-response-modelling-in-icelab-phd-position-in-ecosystem-modelling-focused-on-responses-of-river-network-carbon-processing-to-climate-stress_783168/.
* The second position is in Arctic stream carbon biogeochemistry, and will explore sources and fates of methane in Arctic streams. It will involve a lot of work in the research station in Abisko in northern Sweden, and use a wide array of tool such as flux chambers we are developing, isotopes, microbial analysis and much more. This position will interact with the “modelling PhD” as well as multiple PhDs and postdocs working in the aquatic carbon cycle in Abisko with Umeå University. Co-advisors will be Jan Karlsson (Professor in Arctic biogeochemistry) and Ylva Sjöberg (Associate Professor in Arctic hydrology). The application is open until March 1st and can be applied here (https://www.umu.se/en/work-with-us/open-positions/phd-student-in-physical-geography-with-a-focus-methane-cycling-in-arctic-stream-networks_787643/)
