Dear colleagues,

I am writing to advertise a fully-funded PhD project to work on tropical clouds and circulation at St Andrews, in collaboration with my colleague Dr Anna Mackie.

The project will involve running idealised simulations to advance understanding of how patterned tropical warming impacts circulation and cloud feedbacks. The position will be based in St Andrews' School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the start date will be approximately September 2025.

The PhD position is suitable for a student with an undergraduate/masters degree or equivalent in physics, mathematics, engineering, atmospheric science, computer science, or a related field. A strong background in mathematics and physics is more important than previous experience in climate science.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Mackie (arm33 at st-andrews.ac.uk). Further details on entry requirements, application procedures and to apply can be found at:
https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/study/apply/postgraduate/research/

I would appreciate if you could share this message with students who may be interested in a Scotland adventure!

Mike Byrne
