The Department of Geography at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Meteorology at the rank of Assistant Professor effective August 2025. We seek an individual committed to excellent teaching, advising, and mentoring; developing an externally funded research program supporting undergraduate and graduate students; and contributing to departmental strengths and needs in meteorology, physical geography and remote sensing.
The standard teaching load is five courses per academic year, but faculty within the department are on a differential teaching load. The candidate is expected to offer courses in synoptic meteorology, mesoscale meteorology, and remote sensing which may include satellite and/or radar imagery processing and analysis for atmospheric science. Depending on the candidate’s specialty and department needs, the candidate may also be assigned introductory courses in physical geography or meteorology. The finalist should also possess a commitment to take a leadership role in mentoring undergraduate students majoring in geography-meteorology and advising geography master’s students focusing on atmospheric science.
Ohio University is a four-year very high research activity (R1) public institution of over 20,000 students located in Athens, a progressive community situated in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio. The Department of Geography currently has 12 full-time tenured faculty members, one full-time instructional faculty member, around 150 undergraduate majors and over a dozen master’s students. Within Geography are a range of degree programs including Climate, Environment and Society, GIScience, Urban Planning and Sustainability, Globalization and Development, Environmental pre-law, Broadcast meteorology, and Meteorology. The Meteorology and Broadcast Meteorology tracks combined currently have over 50 undergraduate majors and minors. The newly renovated Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis supports teaching and research in meteorology, climatology, and forecasting, and provides numerous experiential learning opportunities, especially in the adjacent Geovisualization Center.
Applications remain open until November 15, 2024.
